Emergency rescue & radio service during flood

Kerala is experiencing the largest disaster of flood and land slide after 1924.The torrential rain since 10th May in sporadic place in Kerala and continuous rain since August first week accumulate huge rain water in several dams. Finally, 10th August 22 dams were open by the Kerala government. The river basin areas and houses were submerged with released water from the dams. But due to continuous rain mountains soil get lose and thus create a devastated landslide in any places in the hilltop areas. The people were not ready for the landslide. Many houses were fully damaged, many lives lost, even agricultural land were severely damaged due to landslide. Around 223 people have died in last two weeks while the worst flood wiped out almost the entire state. Tens of thousands of people have been forced to abandon their homes in the popular tourist state, where a major airport has shut and trains have been severely disrupted. Around 10 lakhs people are living in 3274 distress relief camps throughout the state. As per the primary investigation more than 20,000 crores of damage occurred. But the reality is much worse than the numbers. In this situation the scouts, guides, rovers, rangers and even their leaders voluntarily came into field and started their services/duty locally. Some of them rescued people from drowning houses. Some gathered information and worked in control rooms all over. The radio scouts managed to rebuild the broken communication network. Many of them guarded the dangerous areas throughout the day for preventing more accidents with state police. Others were busy in collecting food items, dresses and essential materials for relief camps. By arranging large vehicles many one supplied these items throughout the needful places. Every one of our movement took necessary steps to the collection of Relief Funds for helping the flood effected peoples as per state circular. The cooperation with local, district, state administration, military forces marked the value of Kerala State Bharat Scouts and Guides in history and it is continuing too…
