Educating Households on Improving nutrition among children below 6 years Old by Growing and eating nutritious Food

We have set 6 models village schools gardens (VSG) in 6 villages of Rurembo Cell, where each group of families identified in each village will meet at regular time to follow the lessons related to vegetables husbandry from planting to harvest. And after School gardens school each family will go to grow the vegetables in their own home spacing for long sustainability of the project. We established also non formal Kitchen school(VKS) at 6 village level, where the beneficiaries are grouped into 6 groups of 6 villages .Each group was accompanied by trained Scout assistants act as Facilitator to help them prepare a balanced diet and cook it, but all done in a way that worked together and learn by experience. We set the 2 days per month where all identified families meet at regular time to learn how to prepare balanced diet. Our aim is to have a malnutrition-free Burera community, and that this knowledge reaches beyond our Kitchen school.”The project was given a good look to the community because they see that the Rwanda Scouts is well positioned to work with other powerful organizations.

The experience of the Scouts has had in this project is that: “Before teaching the families how to prepare a balanced diet, they should be trained first, so that they too can go and train them later, this and as they have testified in their testimonies, they have indicated that they will go and teach it to other Scout leaders in the unit.
