Eco-brick Intiative: Turning Single-Use Plastic Waste Into Eco-Friendly Building Blocks

Plastic pollution is a major environmental threat in urban areas. To address this issue and support the Tide Turners Plastic Challenge, I was inspired to start an ecobrick project to manage clean, single-use plastic waste that would otherwise end up polluting local edosystems.

The project was implemented at the Triangular Park in the Margorejo Indah residential area, Surabaya. To execute it, I collected non-recyclable soft plastics like snack wrappers and bags. After ensuring they were clean and dry, I shredded them into smaller pieces and tightly packed them into empty plastic bottles using a wooden stick until they became dense.

Through this project, I successfully upcycled a significant amount of single-use plastic waste inco durable ecobricks, preventing it from ending up in landfills. I am proud to contribute to a cleaner environment and hope to inspire fellow Scouts.

This hands-on activity taught me the importance of reducing single-use plastics and finding creative ways to reuse waste. To make it better, I would like to involve more friends and organize a small workshop to teach more people how to make ecobricks together.
