Dzongkhag nazhoen camp.

A total of 218 Nazhoen Scouts; 126 girls and 82 boys from 9 different schools participated in the Dzongkhag Nazhoen camp held from 22nd to 25th December, 2019 in Serzhong primary school under gelephu drungkhag . There were 15 camp staff, 8 Youth Leadership volunteers and 4 volunteers.They were divided into four sub camps namely Gawa, Jampa, Ningjay and Tangnyum. The four sub camps were further divided into 10 sub bases for the next three days’ activities. The activities were as follows: Base 1: Spiritual trip and community service where the participants made a visit to Pemaling Lhakhang for spiritual purpose and to carry out the necessary community services to the Lhakhang. The participants helped in both dry and wet washing, cleaning the drain, mass cleaning, paper picking, carrying of the logs and cleaning the hostels. Base 2: Team building. This session was conducted by Mr. Tenzin Wangchuk who was assisted by two youth leaders. There were five different team building activities: Ski driving, nail balancing, passing of the shirt, filling up the store and water race. Each game requires the members to work in partnership and reach the goal. These activities teach the children, the importance of working as a team and the result of team work. Base 3: Exploring nature The base in-charge was Mr. Nima Dorji, assisted by Mr. Kelzang Dorji of Jangchubling Lower Secondary School. The participants had to blindfold and move along the trail with the help of the rope. It was a mini adventure for the participants where the communication skills were very important. Base 4: Family risk reduction The session was carried by Mrs. Pema Choden and she was assisted by one of the youth leaders. In this session, the participants were introduced to emergency numbers. They were given few scenarios to enact upon which contained the information on family risk reduction. Base 5: National Identity The session was conducted by Mr. Pema Tenzin and Mr. Ugyen Wangchuk. They were taught about the national identities including national bird, animal, tree, language and games. Various nationally played indigenous games (Pa ril Shug ril, Jig dhum, Daygor, Soksom and Pung doe) were also introduced and given practical sessions. All the students were given opportunity to play each game. Base 6: Counseling and life skill The session conducted by counselor Dawa Tshering, covered the topics including life skills and counseling. The participants were introduced about the five qualities (crow’s effort, Crane’s focus, dog’s sleep, feeding and leave home) and the importance of communication was also highlighted. Base 7: Far sighting and city building The base in-charge was Mrs. Kanjur Lhamo. The participants were asked to discuss about their ideal school and make a model of their ideal school. They were asked to discuss the future they see and to model their future. Base 8: Vocational skills Mr. Sangay Penjor led this session where he covered the skill such as hammering the nail, cutting log using the saw and basic rope works. The participants were given hands on experience for each of the above. Base 9: Star race The participants were involved in mini hikewhere the messages contained the information related to the Royal family of Bhutan, filtration process and trial signs were a simple recollection of what they already learnt. Base 10: Yoga session The morning yoga session was conducted by the two school scout commissioners (the principal of JIgmeling PS and Churzang APS). There was evening relaxation session for the participants after the tiring activities. The closing of the three days Nazhoen camp was graced by Dasho Dzongda on 26th December, 2019.
