Dr. Eduard Vallory talked his research on Global Citizenship Education in Taiwan

Dr. Eduard Vallory, author of “World Scouting- Educating for Global Citizenship, and current Visiting Scholar to New York University, who was invited to talk on his research on 21 to 26 February in Taiwan. Dr. Vallory gave his talk on “Scouting is What You Do Not See” at the Scouts of China HQ on 22 February. Some 80 rovers and leaders listened to his talk and had Q&A session afterward. Then, on 24 February, he was invited to speak to the faculty and graduate students at the Civic Education and Leadership Department of National Taiwan Normal University. This department used to train Scout Education teachers for Junior High School in Taiwan. He gave a talk on “Scouting and Citizenship”. Dr. Vallory also talked on his research and book review in the class of Dr. Lu, Chien-Cheng later in the afternoon. Dr. Ie-Bin Lian, who is the professor in National ChangHua University of Education and also the International Commissioner of Scouts of China, invited Dr. Vallory to speak at his university on 25 February. Dr. Vallory explained how Scouting complements the school education to the students and scout leaders. During his stay in Taiwan, Dr. Vallory visited several scout units in Soochow University, Taipei Di-Li Senior High School and Taipei Li-Shan High School to see scouts in action and talk to scouts and leaders to understand the Scouting movement in Taiwan. He also joined the thinking day celebration organized by Taichung City Scout Council in Taichung city. Dr. Vallory was invited by several participants attending the World Scout Education Congress in Hong Kong. The General Association of the Scouts of China, National Taiwan Normal University, National ChangHua University of Education, outward Bound Taiwan, Chinese Scout Walking Club and several leaders provided both administration and financial support for Dr. Vallory’s visiting to Taiwan this time. The invitation of Dr. Vallory to Taiwan is considered as one of the follow-ups of the World Scout Education Congress in Hong Kong.
