Bhutan

Don't pay the price, keep your community nice.

I got inspired by the project "Clean Bhutan" which was an initiative taken by our queen Ashi Jetsuen Pema Wangchuck. I also got the motivation from the monks who were initiating a cleaning campaign around a temple. Seeing those young monks initiate such cleaning campaign, made me realize that it is one of our duties to keep and maintain cleanliness around the temple. And also, I am a person who is very interested in taking up such initiative for our country.
The project was implemented on the route from our school to the temple, Sangachokhor for two days. Early morning at 8:00 am we had a troop meeting with all the scouts in our school. By 9 am we were able to move from our school towards the temple. We started our cleaning from Lamgong town. We divided the troop into two groups to clean on both sides of the road. We collected many sacks of wastes along the road till the temple. We cleaned the whole route from our school to the temple.
The project had positive impacts to the passer-by who travel along the road and the people who stays at Sangachokor. It also benefitted the visitors of the temple as the environment was clean and gave a peaceful state of mind. The monks were also happy because they had a clean environment to recite prayers. Moreover, it helped advocate community about the rising issues of the litters and get people thinking about changing their behavior.
I learned that living in a healthy environment would give us more health benefits. And also that if the environment is clean the people will have a peaceful state of mind. The most important lesson I learned from this project was the power of working together and commitment towards creating better environment. To make it better, I would firstly advocate the people about the waste management and the importance of clean environment.
