Digonta Scout Group Refreshment Camp 2021
A Scout is a person who is always alert, aware and a step ahead - be it in peace times or times of crisis.
As such, we from Digonta Scout Group of Bangladesh Scouts organised a one-day camp for the mental well-being of our fellow scouts.
We also took this opportunity to raise awareness among the local people about personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness.
In this one-day camp:
1) They participated in a day-long hiking program in the wilderness and practised their skills of compass-navigation and climbing.
2) The scouts distributed masks and raised awareness among regular citizens about the safety measures during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
3) They also collected stray plastic bottles and food wrappers from the forest in an attempt to keep the environment clean of waste and pollutants.
In the project site, i.e. forest or natural reserve - there were many visitors. We targeted a group of about 100 to 150 people. Due to the activities of our scouts, the people became more aware of the use of masks, social distancing and using of hand sanitizers. They also learned from the scouts why not to litter in public places and how it causes environmental pollution and diseases.
These are my learnings from the project:
1) People need to be more aware about using masks, using hand-sanitizers and maintaining social distancing during COVID-19 pandemic.
2) People should not litter in nature - it creates pollution and causes diseases.
This project was carried out with limited prior planning - with much more time, the output from the initiative would have been much better.
