Digging out a pond with International Rover Week Summer 2015

Digging out a pond with International Rover Week Summer 2015

Participants from around the world, including Australia, Germany, Honk Kong, Ireland, Switzerland and Taiwan, spent time working on a long-term development project in the grounds of Kandersteg International Scout Centre's campsite. In 2013, participants of International Rover Week helped to clear mud, grass and trees around a small pond on our campsite. The main aim is to open up this area for a variety of wildlife to live and flourish. already, the differences in the small open section were remarkable with the amount of tadpoles living there in Spring 2015. The plan is that in 2013, we will clear 1/3 of the pond, another 1/3 in 2015, and the finalsection in 2017; giving the area some time to grow inbetween. The work included: Digging the top 20cm of mud and soil out to leave an area of water Removing large items - logs, branches, rocks, etc
