Cubs help clean park play area

We were challenged to do a Litter Less project for our Cub National Challenge. At the same time, the Moot Project has been encouraging people to get involved in their communities to clean up around their areas. On 4 March we were able to join the Moot Project with our Cub Pack and clean up the play area at Rietondale Park. It had been very neglected as the municipality had not done their duty. The long grass and litter made it very uninviting for children to play and parents to relax.
We joined two other Cub Packs in the area and the Moot Project to clean up the play area at Rietondale Park, Pretoria. Cubs picked up litter, swept up leaves and moved piles of cut grass onto big heaps and then into bags for removal.
The park is used by many of the local residents and visitors from other areas. There are often sports matches on the weekends on the adjacent fields. Cleaning up the play area made it a nice spot for family picnics, children's play time and parent relax time again.
The local residents were very pleased to see the cubs getting involved. It was good visibility and marketing for us. It was good for the cubs to see so many people out and doing something for their community. They were pleased with their efforts and being able to do something practical to help. We need to be more active more often in the streets and parks of our neighbourhood.
