Criação de biblioteca comunitária no GESP
Motivated by a deep commitment to community and education, senior scouts Isabelli and Otávio were inspired to contribute meaningfully to the schooling and literacy of children. Recognizing the crucial role that access to books and reading plays in a child’s development, they dedicated their time and effort to creating a welcoming library space. Their passion reflects a belief that empowering youth through literacy is key to building stronger, more informed communities.
In 2023, senior scouts Isabelli (17) and Otávio (16) from Silva Paes Scout Group in Rio Grande, Brazil, created a library to improve reading access for children learning to read. Over four months, they collected, cleaned, organized, and catalogued books and prepared a space. More than two years later, the library remains active, offering a reading and recreational environment.
Throughout this project, we learned the importance of teamwork, persistence, and community engagement. We realized that small actions, like organizing books and creating a welcoming space, can have a big impact on education and literacy. It taught us to listen to community needs, plan carefully, and adapt as challenges arose. Most importantly, we saw how empowering young people through education can inspire positive change.
