COURSE FOR ASSISTANT LEADER TRAINERS FOR VIETNAMESE SCOUT LEADERS

COURSE FOR ASSISTANT LEADER TRAINERS FOR VIETNAMESE SCOUT LEADERS

Scouting in Vietnam has long been in existence, but due to socio-political issues and current form of governance, it remains a challenge for the Region to help establish an official National Scout Organization under WOSM. Thus, providing quality training to Scout Leaders and potential Trainers shall help strengthen and unite various Scouting groups in Vietnam towards the establishment of an official NSO. Training of Adults in Scouting as an integral part of effective delivery network of the Youth Programme calls for committed and competent Trainers. Notwithstanding, challenges on limited resources and financial constraints, holding the Training to other neighboring countries to Vietnam in the Asia-Pacific Region will also entail a lot more requirements in terms of monitoring and supervision from the WSB-APR, mobilization of Trainers and Logistical support. Thus, BSP having been an active member of the Region in numerous Scouting events, and have established working relationship with Vietnamese Scout Leaders since 2010, gives more advantage to both the organizers and the participants through international cooperation and goodwill to both countries. The World Adult Resources Policy gives great flexibility to NSO to develop their own training scheme/patterns. They can best satisfy the particular needs of their own adults to provide modern Training techniques and increase their emphasis on the training of trainers based on local or cultural situations. The scheme for the training of trainers requires the development of two or three-stage progressive levels of training – the Course for Assistant Leader Trainers and the Course for Leader Trainers respectively. The Course for Assistant Leader Trainers (CALT) is the First Level of the Trainer’s Training Scheme in Scouting, which aims to strengthen and capacitate potential trainers to become effective instructors, facilitators, counselors and managers of basic training courses for Unit Leaders. In 2010 and 2011, the Boy Scouts of the Philippines in cooperation with the World Scout Bureau, Asia-Pacific Region have successfully conducted three (3) Advanced Unit Leaders Training Courses (Wood Badge Courses) for Vietnamese Scout Leaders in Mt. Makiling, Los Baños, Laguna. A total of 116 Scout Leaders have successfully completed the training course with 46 participants from the 1st Course in September 2012; 40 participants from the 2nd Course in May and 30 from the 3rd Course in September 2011 respectively. From 2011 to present, all participants have completed their requirements for Training Studies, which consequently quality them to receive their Wood Badge tokens along with their Wood Badge Parchment from the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. These also warrant their qualification to take higher training for personal development, thus, helping their Scout association to train more Leaders for the effective implementation of the quality youth programme.
