COMPOST FOR CLIMATE ACTION

Composting is adding organic material that can be added to soil to help the environment. Composting makes the soil rich in minerals. We decided to carry out a composting project for 2 months. My goal was to put all the household waste such as fruit peelings, vegetable waste and food waste in the garden as a compost.
This project took place in the garden area at home. Our first step was to dig up a compost garden. Then we made sure that for 2 months we place all the household kitchen waste in this compost garden. We made sure to mix the fruit peelings and vegetable waste with the soil in the garden.
This project encouraged my neighbours which consists of 26 people to dig up their own home compost gardens.
I have learnt that composting helps enrich soil. Composting helps reduce chemical fertilizers. It encourages the production of beneficial bacteria and fungi that break down organic matter to create humus a rich nutrient-filled material.
