Coastal Cleanup at Coney Island, Singapore
A coastal cleanup was organised on Coney Island, Singapore on 17 March 2019 by South Area, Singapore Scout Association. A total of 11 Cub Scouts and 2 teachers signed up for this activity. For most of them, it was the first time they were participating in a cleanup of this nature. The target area was a 300m stretch along Beach Area A. Two Scouts and two Ventures from Soaring Eagles Air Scout Wing (Open) were assisting as service scouts for this activity, and one adult leader from Ngee Ann Wichita Scout Troop was also in attendance.
The cleanup commenced at 1345hrs and lasted for a total duration of 45 minutes, ending at 1430hrs. The next 15 minutes were for consolidation and weighing of the collected trash. The target was to collect at least 18kg of trash, or approximately 1kg per person. However, because of their hard work and perseverance, the group exceeded their target and collected a grand total of 40.2kg of trash.
All in all, it was a fruitful session, and the participants enjoyed themselves very much while doing their part for the environment.
