We wanted to help one of the poorest counties in our state along the Rio Grande River bordering Mexico.  The areas we served mostly we Pernitas and Mission, TX.  Many of these people have very little clothing, and many have no shoes.  We collected 15 garbage bags of lighweight clothing (conducive to the climate there) and 42 pairs of shoes for children.  Our family asked for donations and collected them.  We sorted them all by size and counted them.  We then gave all of the donated items to The Jesus Center in Houston, TX, which in turn took the items to the Rio Grande Valley for Distribution.  In all, we collected 279 shirts/tops and 301 bottoms/shorts/skirts.  We had donated food and clothing and household items to this group for years, but we really wanted to help children just like us.  We plan to continue this mission as long as we are in the Houston area.
