"cleanliness is next to godliness"
35 Adult Rover Leaders and Volunteers congregated together on 29th March to plan for a community service project. The NSO- MoP Coodrinator of Bhutan with the staff of Bhutan scouts association organized the two day service project at a local remote community area on 30th & 31st March 2017.
The group first painted an ancient stupa of the community and whitewashed the stupa for the wellbeing of all sentient beings. The community were also inlvoved in the project.
The second project was done simultaneously on the same day. The group peeled thousands of betel nuts for an old lady who runs a pan shop. She has no one to help her do all the chores for her. An aging old lady was identified by the team for help her get her shop running. The team pellets about 1000 betel nuts for her and that made her day. She can now sell those nuts for a month without having to seek for any help from her neighbours.
The team also carried out water servicing for 10 cars on the same day. The team were divided into five groups and each group washed two cars for free in the service center for cars.
The next day the team went to an ancient hot water spring used by people all over the country as a source of immersing in the hot water spring to cleanse any kind of skin diseases, minor ailment such joint pain, ulcer and obesity problems. The historic hot water spring is visited by thousands of people everyday. The team thought it would be a good initiative to clean the whole area for health reasons. The team carried out the cleaning, scrubbing and washing of the wells and ponds about 7:00 in the morning and completed the cleaning process around 6:00 in the evening.
The community were invited to partake in the cleaning of the surrounding area and they wholeheartedly suppprted the campaign. Team collected about three truck loads of trash. Thousands of people living in the area appreciated the efforts made by the volunteer team.
Adovacy speeches and slogans were delivered to raise awareness about clean and healthy environment.
