Cleaning and Tree Plantation at Cremated Area

  • Respect for the community and sacred places: The project taught us the importance of respecting our community, its people, traditions, and sacred places. By taking care of these places, we show appreciation for our cultural heritage and help preserve them for future generations.

  • Environmental care, cleanliness, and greenery: We learned that maintaining clean and green surroundings is essential for a healthy and peaceful community. Proper waste disposal, regular cleaning, and caring for plants and natural surroundings can help create a safer and more pleasant environment for everyone.

  • Scout values of service and teamwork: The project strengthened our understanding of the Scout values of service, cooperation, responsibility, and teamwork. By working together and helping others, we learned that collective effort can create a greater positive impact on the community. The experience encouraged us to continue serving others and contributing positively to society.

On 18th September 2025, I volunteered at the cremation area in Rolong, Bhutan, as part of a community service and environmental conservation activity. I, Scout LT Kinzang Thinley (20th Badge), participated in the activity together with Scout Sonam Tobgay (20th Badge), forestry officers, teachers, police personnel, and young scouts. The activity brought together people from different groups with a common goal of improving and maintaining the cleanliness of an important community and sacred area.

During the activity, we worked together to clear unwanted bushes and vegetation, clean the surrounding area, and remove waste and other materials that affected the appearance and cleanliness of the site. We also planted trees and greenery around the area to make it cleaner, greener, and more pleasant. Everyone actively contributed to the work, and the cooperation between the scouts, officials, teachers, and other community members made the activity more effective.

The experience taught us the importance of respecting sacred and community spaces while also taking responsibility for protecting the environment. It also strengthened our values of teamwork, leadership, service, and cooperation. Through this activity, we were able to make a positive contribution to the community while creating a cleaner and greener environment for everyone. Most importantly, it showed us that when people come together and work with a shared sense of responsibility, even small efforts can create a meaningful and lasting impact.

  • Teamwork: I learned the importance of working together with people from different backgrounds, including scouts, forestry officers, teachers, police personnel, and other community members. By sharing responsibilities and supporting one another, we were able to complete the work more effectively. This experience strengthened my communication, cooperation, and leadership skills.

  • Community responsibility: The project taught me that everyone has a responsibility to care for shared community spaces. By volunteering our time and effort to clean and maintain the cremation area, we contributed to the well-being of the community and helped create a cleaner and more respectful environment for everyone.

  • Environmental stewardship: I learned the importance of protecting and caring for the environment through simple actions such as clearing unwanted bushes, collecting waste, planting trees, and maintaining greenery. Planting trees can help improve the surroundings and contribute to a healthier environment for future generations.

  • Respect: The activity taught me the importance of maintaining the dignity, cleanliness, and peacefulness of cremation areas. These places hold deep cultural and spiritual significance, so keeping them clean and well-maintained is an important way of showing respect to the deceased, their families, and the community.
