Clean Hatirjheel, Green Dhaka
Hatirjheel is a beautiful place in Dhaka, but people throw a lot of plastic and garbage there. We noticed that this waste easily blows into the water and ruins the lake. As Scouts working for the SDGs, we wanted to stop this. We chose to clean the banks so the plastic and garbage wouldn't reach the water. Also, we wanted to show people that if we can clean it, they can keep it clean too.
On Friday, May 22, 2026, 16 Scouters from COSMOS Open Scout Group went to Hatirjheel. We divided into teams, took gloves and trash bags, and cleaned the pathways and waterfront. We collected 15 large black bags of plastic and garbage and put them in the city corporation bins. Our work also made local visitors look and realize they shouldn't litter anymore.
Teamwork works: 16 of us working together managed to clean a huge area and collect 15 bags of garbage quickly.
Prevention is key: It is much easier to collect plastic and garbage from the banks before it falls into the water.
Action inspires: Doing the clean-up in public made people notice, proving that visible action is the best way to spread awareness.
