CHALLENGE 6: Forests Challenge Badge
Developed in collaboration with United Nations agencies, civil society and other organizations, the United Nations challenge badges are intended to raise awareness, educate and motivate young people to change their behavior and be active agents of change in their local communities. The challenge badge series can be used by teachers in school classes and by youth leaders, and especially Guide or Scout groups.

AGRICULTURE: How can we grow food in a sustainable way?
ENERGY: The world needs a healthy environment as well as electricity – how can we have both?
HUNGER: Having enough to eat is a basic human right. What can we do to help the 1 billion people who still go hungry every day?
NUTRITION: What is a healthy diet and how can we make food choices which are environmentally friendly?
SOILS: Without good soil, nothing grows. How can we take care of the ground under our feet?

INTRODUCTION TO THE FOREST CHALLENGE BADGE
The forest challenge badge is a designed to help educate children and young people about the vital part forests play in sustaining life on Earth.
This booklet includes basic background information on forests, encouraging participants to get to know the forests in their community, to discover the cultural, economic and social value of forests, and to understand the links between forests and people’s wellbeing around the world.
The second part of the booklet contains the badge curriculum: a range of activities and ideas to help young people gain the knowledge, skills and values needed to protect, preserve and enhance forests and sustain the benefits they provide to people and the planet.
Additional resources (such as YUNGA’s Youth Guide to Forests), useful websites and a glossary explaining key terms (which are highlighted in the text like thi[AG1] s) are provided at the end of the booklet.
Badge content and curriculum
The background information and the activities are divided into four main sections:
A. The amazing world of forests: an introduction to the importance of forests as well as a detailed look at different types of forests.
B. Forests for an amazing world: a closer look at the wealth of services and resources that forests provide.
C. Cultural wonders of our forests: the role of forests in fun and recreation as well as their cultural significance around the world.
D. Take action: suggests ideas to motivate and help your group or class undertake forest-related initiatives within your local communities.
One of the first or second activity of all sections are compulsory and one more activity will be done form others
