Cascade PS reading is our journey

The Scouting-in-Schools team at Cascade Primary wanted to empower youth through education and unlock their full potential. Cheree Bedeker explained that the project addressed the need for accessible, quality learning in underprivileged communities. The initiative aimed to make a meaningful impact on young lives, foster curiosity, and encourage learners to engage with reading and educational resources in a supportive environment.
Learners practised reading, explored word meanings, wrote and shared short stories, and engaged in teamwork and communication exercises. Library visits were limited due to safety concerns, but alternative activities reinforced literacy skills. Yeboneers guided learners, ensuring participation, fostering problem-solving, and providing mentorship in a safe, structured environment.
Cheree Bedeker highlighted the importance of adaptability, communication, and mentorship. Learners developed teamwork, problem-solving, resilience, and effective communication skills. The project showed that even with constraints, guided support can make a significant impact on educational growth. These lessons will continue to inform the Scouts’ approach to helping learners and fostering future success.
