Bunhle Bemvelo

East District started a project title Bunhle Bemvelo led by Sifiso Malinga. They partnered with Gea Sphere Botanical Garden. 25 Scouts and Rovers were involved in the project. 2 instructors Lennart Happe and Marius Garnhartner from Gea Sphere taught the Scouts about 4 different types of plants, Invasive alien plants that need to be removed, alien plants that need permission to be planted, alien plants that shouldn’t be added anymore and indigenous plants. The instructors were very young and that helped raise high interest on the issue amongst the Scouts. They interacted very well with the Group, asked questions to find out, how much the Group knew about the subject. They used posters in the presentation so that the children would be able to identify the different plants. The presentation focused on the identification of the indigenous plants and 3 categories of alien plants and their threats to local biodiversity. After the presentation they went around to identify the alien plants at the camp site C4L, East district premises.
