BSP ( Bridge Support Program) : BSP Nueva Ecija Council Gift Giving this Christmas Season
To share the spirit of Christmas Season this year 2020, the Boy Scout of the Philippines - Nueva Ecija Council Messenger of Peace together with Nueva Ecija Youth Action Network, a youth organization in Nueva Ecija, conducted a three series of gift giving.
The first leg was conducted at Bahay ni San Jose, Barangay Papaya, San Antonio, Nueva Ecija. Bahay ni San Jose is an orphanage who housed about 20 abandoned children all over the town and nearby town. The council brought cleaning materials and products as requested by the orphanage. Added to it, the council gave Christmas Packs to the volunteer of the orphanage.
Tahanan ng Damayang Kristiyano located at Barangay Parang Mangga, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija was the second recipients of the projects. Tahanan ng Damayang Kristiyano also known as TDK is a home for the abandoned elderly all over the city and nearby town. For them to feel the spirit of Christmas, the council sung a Christmas Carols and entertained them with a dance presentation. TDK also requested cleaning materials and products that they can use in the place.
The third and the last part of the Gift Giving was held at Pagsangjan Elementary School located at Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija. This school is different from the schools we are thinking of. This school was considered as one of the last mile school of the Division of Nueva Ecija. To get in this school you need to walked for about 2 to 3 hours at the some part of the mountain range of Sierra Madre and crossing 19 rivers with different depth and current waves. The other alternative transportation there is by cart pulled by carabao or if the river current is good you can ride on a four by four truck. The Sitio Pagsangjan was the place of the Dumagat Tribes of Nueva Ecija.
The council together with NEYAN gave things that were badly needed by the Dumagats, like hygiene kits, clothes, bags, blankets and like. The group also conducted a feeding program.
Note: Dumagats origin is the same with Aeta's in Northern Luzon. Their ancestral origin is traced from Negrito's which is one of the earliest inhabitants in the Philippines. They are found in the hillsides and mountains of Quezon, Bulacan, Rizal and Laguna provinces. The term "Dumagat" is thought to be derived from the word "rumakat", "lumakat" or "lumakad" which signifies the migration of early Negritos in Philippines by walking in land and not by the sea.( source: GO Philippines)
