Broken Flute
This project was done by Rover Scouts and leaders from two different groups in the north of Portugal, Fafe and Vieira do Minho.
The project was divided in two phases: first one during 2011 called “Hands together to Mozambique”, and the second one, in 2012, called “Broken Flute”.
The objective was to follow the example of a catholic sister called Flora, who had given her belongings to dedicate her life to orphan children.
Therefore, during one year the two groups collected essential goods to give to the people of Mozambique, in Africa, involving Scouts, youth, and communities in solidarity projects. The result was more than 8.000€ to buy those goods, postcards with messages to deliver to orphan children, and a lot of motivation to contribute to a better world.
Under the theme, “All diferente, all equal”, on the second phase, a group of 30 Rover Scouts and Leaders went to Mozambique to deliver the donations and postcards, and to help in local service projects as rebuilding the orphanage, helping with the basic care in nursing, teaching, agriculture, environment and construction. The “Broken flute” phase happened during 20/08/2012 to 15/09/2012.
The team wants to continue this project in a near future.
