Books are never enough.

In our country every one has a right to a "Free Education." To get the utmost benefit from this one must have access to books. As the saying goes 'Reading completes a man'. So, in order to give the students the opportunity to see the world through books, I thought what better way to that than donating books and reconstructing a school library.
This project was implemented in a rural village called as Alakoladeniya, which is situated the city of Kurunegala. First of all I told my Scout master and the other scouts of my idea to donate books and reconstruct a school library. Our Scout Master then proceeded to search for nearby schools with poor libraries, which led us to the discovery of the Alakoladeniya College. In order to make this a guaranteed success I found sponsors who shared the same ideology as me.
The school is a small rural school and have a student body of about 150 students. The students and the staff were overjoyed to hear about the school library being reconstructed. Specially the students where ecstatic about the idea of getting hands on new books. I personally believe this will have a great impact in their lives, leading them to have bigger dreams and motivation in the hope of experiencing the vast world they have only seen through the eyes of an author.
I really learned a lot through out this experience. I learned what it really means to be a leader and what it means to see something carried out until its end. What I experienced the most and what left a huge impact in my heart is the sense of joy and fulfilment you get through doing something for the community and its people. If I had to redo this again the only thing I would have done differently and better would be get more sponsors and more books.
