For a Better Tomorrow, Three Day Cleaning

Paro harbors the only international airport in Bhutan and receive thousands of tourists. As Paro is the first place that tourists visit during their trip to Bhutan, it serves as an important location to give a good impression about the country. Yet this district has also been struggling with waste management. The drains alongside roads are blocked and the river banks are filled with wastes. This led me and a my team to take our initiative to hold a three day cleaning campaign.
We cleaned a total of 5 locations around central Paro which includes the road between Taju and Wochu, river bank area in front of Jangwa Ney, and monasteries including Kyichu and Dungtse Lhakhang, parks and a picnic spot above Paro college of education. We mainly cleaned the drains that enter the river and the areas that are littered and neglected by people but can be easily be seen.
This project will benefit over 5000 residents of Paro and also the country as the cleaned places will give a better impression to the foreign visitors as well as the residents of Paro itself. We have collected over 70 sacks of waste over the duration of three days which we deposited in the respective dumping spots. The drains that we cleaned now have a better and cleaner flow benefitting life both below water and on land that depend on it.
This project will inspire me, the participants and everyone who saw us work to be responsible and manage our own waste. I believe that teamwork played a profound role throughout the project and all of us have strengthened our team spirit and cooperation. This project will also inspire me and others to take on better and larger projects hereafter leading to a better Paro, a better Bhutan and ultimately a better World.
