Barn Owl Boxes on a Farm
I was motivated to start this project because I wanted to give back to the community of volunteers that I have been working with over the course of 2 years for being so kind and helpful. My time on the farm really helped me develop as a person and as a leader for the other newer volunteers on the farm.
My project involved creating 4 owl boxes over the course of 2 days. The first day consisted of mainly assembling wooden planks that were previously cut into owl boxes. On the second day, which was shorter, had us hanging two of the owl boxes.
I learned about animal conservation and using natural prevention methods to deter pests such as rats. I also learned how to use power tools such as drills, and accurately measure using a ruler to mark points on the wood to drill through. In addition, spray painting was also used.
