Awareness Project -Effects of Single Use Plastic
My Tide Turner Plastic Challenge Project, was to give an alternative to the use of plastic which is paper and also to create awareness in my neighbourhood community through a poster distribution campaign about the bad effects of single use plastic and why we should stop the use of plastic in our daily life and use alternatives. I was motivated to take up this project as I learnt about the bad effects on the oceans and marine life due to single use plastic and wanted to create awareness.
My project was implemented in my neighbourhood community. For the first section of my Project, I made 200 paper bags out of used paper. I approached the shop owners and the bakery trishaws in my neighbourhood and asked them to use these paper bags instead of plastic bags. For the second section of my project, which is awareness, I designed and distribute posters & flyers to the houses in my neighbourhood community to create awareness on the bad effects of single use plastic.
At least 200 plastic bags will not be used due to the paper bags I distributed. Through this I am not only helping to reduce the use of plastic bags but also reuse the old paper. Through my awareness poster campaign project my community will be made aware and made to think twice about the effects of single use plastics and use alternatives. At least 50 households will be made aware and made to think twice about the effects of single use plastics.
Through this project I learnt that we must take a decisive step in our lives to refuse & reduce the use of single use plastic & to use alternative methods like paper & cloth bags. Even a single small action will count. I hope that my community will think about the impacts on marine & ocean life when they use single use plastic & turn to alternatives. I hope to continue to create awareness about the effects of single use plastic on the environment and encourage people to use alternatives.
