Australian Jamboree 2016
Scouts from 18 countries engaged in a Messengers of Peace program conducted at AJ2016, the 24th Australian Scout Jamboree at Cataract Park, Appin, New South Wales, Australia in January 2016. Throughout the entire Jamboree, 8600 youth members from Australia and other countries of the world and more than 2000 adults lived and camped together, sharing skills and lifestyles as they engaged in challenging activities as members of a global scout community. Scouts learnt and demonstrated new social and relational skills throughout the camp and built their capacity as individuals and members of teams. Activities included environmental, community development, global village and community service including the recently impacted Kurnell community which was affected by a tornado days before the camp occurred. Leadership opportunities and gaining new skills were strongly evident. These skills were tested when severe rain over three days impacted the site and skills of patience, perseverance, tolerance and being resourceful and cheerful were present. Elements of MOP program were evident across the campsite and at all activities associated with the Jamboree. Participants- youth and adults departed the Jamboree site aware of their membership of Scouting as a global movement.
