Advancing Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative

Our country Ethiopia has an ambitious undertaking to become a green society by planting various types of eco-friendly seedlings. as Scout law number 6 states" A Scout cares for nature " the Scouts around the city joined the National Green Legacy Initiative to abide by the Scout law, to curb the effects of climate change and deforestation in Dire Dawa city, contribute to the green Ethiopia vision
The project was executed in Dire Dawa city in close cooperation with the local authority. - each Scout had planted a seedling around 25 during the summer period - the hole for planting was dug by Scouts, friends and volunteers - the seedling plant was brought by the local authority - every weekend there was a seed planting program for consecutive two months - collect the plastic blanket of the seedling fertilised and disposed of the waste as per the waste disposal standard of the city
The project impact is visible in the coming years while Scouts' commitment continues to give post-planting care for the planted seeds. - more than 6,000 seedlings were planted within the two months - the seeds are growing and changing the compound into the green. further, the impact of the planting on mitigating the effect of global climate change will be visible in the coming years
planning a project having a long-term duration, effective collaboration and communication with local authorities and non-Scout volunteers. it allow Scouts to demonstrate their leadership skill even by coordinating the mass during Green Legacy Day.
