Act of Kindness Changing Lives & Our Community

My mom fled her country from the war to make sure that I have a life. She moved to a new country with nothing. When she arrived to Canada, she received help from Catholic nuns who sponsored my family and gave us everything we need. We got foods and clothes, and a place to stay until we get back on our feeds. I want to teach my daughter that helping and giving back to the community can change a person's life. That's how we got where we are.
There is an organization in San Clemente called FAM (Family Assistant Ministry). FAM assists people with food, shelter and personalized coaching on their journey to independence. I reached out to them and set up volunteer time for the troop. We received approval to volunteer for Pantry Staff during Saturday morning on 1/28/2023. We spoke to them afterwards to have our troop volunteer once a month.
We help short out expired food, and organized good food that will be donate to people that will need it. FAM served 30,187 unique people last year.
Just a little act of kindness and volunteer with organization like FAM can help thousands of people get up on their feeds. The best way to teach Scouts to help and give back to the community is to get them to participate in the volunteering services. Doing it only once will not work. Putting it on the calendar as a regular event is an effective way to implement the volunteer service project.
