62nd Petaling Scouts Troop Kem Keahlian (Tenderfoot Badge Camp) 2017

On the 24th to 26th of March, the 62nd Petaling Scouts Troop held a camp focusing on the Tenderfoot Badge, the first stepping stone into Scouting. As one of the camp committee members, my team made sure things went on smoothly. It started off raining in the first hour of the camp, but by noon, the clouds started to clear off. After building our campsite, we went on with our activities. The juniors did their final revision before the test would start the following day. While we seniors were busy in some final preparations, the juniors then learned to build a tripod out of bamboo and ropes, tied lashings, some clapping and songs, and flag tying. We also had fun with the Obstacle Courses around the camp grounds. In the evening, just before our first dinner together, we held the opening ceremony (istiadat mengibarkan bendera). Then, we had our dinner. At night, we went on teaching them knots and first-aid bandages. At 11 pm, in preparation for our expedition the following day, our seniors taught us the basics of map drawing and the Dos and Don'ts during the expedition. After that, we cleaned ourselves and prepared for sleep. In the early hours of the second day, we started off with some physical training. Honestly, it wasn't my favorite but I enjoyed doing the exercises. At 7 am, we had our breakfast and prepared for the expedition. Then, at 9 am, we left the campsite grounds and tested our expediting abilities. The whole journey was very tedious and exhausting but, we made the decision and promised to lose hope and or our heads. We then went on, completing tasks along the way, and after the tiring journey, we finally completed the expedition. It was fortunate we got back by lunchtime. After lunch, all the participants were given time to recall all the facts and lessons for the test later on. When the whistle called for all to fall in, that's when the games begin. I went around looking and all seemed to be doing fine. After the testing hours, we prepared dinner. At dinner, we had our meals and talked about our lives and got our bonds closer. After dinner, we met up in our patrols to prepare for the event we had been waiting for and that happens annually and traditionally, the Cultural Night (Malam Kebudayaan). We had fun and enjoyed our time. After that, we played a friendly game of Water Polo. Then, we prepared to for bed. We woke up when the Sun is up for the final day. The juniors were given their final test, while we cleaned up any mess around the campsite. After the test, we packed up and cleared the campsite. By the end of the clearing, it was no longer the campsite we stayed in for 3 days but back to its original purpose, which was a normal school courtyard. We held the Closing Ceremony (Istiadat Menurunkan Bendera). After that, we cleared up and that marked the end of the camp. Even though I wasn't a full participant but one of the runners of this camp, I've learned more new things and gained some wisdom that would come in handy someday. This camp was a training ground for the seniors in leadership training and management. Although I've learned lots about leadership in the events before, yet, this camp proved that learning never stops. Overall, this camp had been decent and I hope to be able to be participating in more activities, with lessons ready to be taught. Til then, Happy Scouting
