3D2N Bekok camping&River claning

In 11 to 14 December 2015, our troop had a camping trip to a small town called Bekok in Johor where we implemented activities that was related to Messenger of Peace(MOP) that we would like to carry out. On the 11th, we took a local train instead of hiring a bus to cut down the carbon footprints on transportation. Upon reaching Bekok, our troop took a 8km hike from the train station to the campsite where it was located at Hutan Lipur Sungai Bantang. Right after that, we were experimenting handling our own trash with a personal A5 size ziplock bag during the entire course of the camping trip. Everyone was very aware of the trash that they produced and always cleanup the garbage first before pack them into their personal ziplock bag. The experimentation was a huge success as we hardly found any trash nor flies or insect around our campsite. In addition to taking care of our own trash, our troop also did a community service by cleaning up the trash alongside the Bantang River. We were put into 4 patrols to target some specific areas where rubbish were more serious. In the end, we had collected more than 10 garbage bag size of trash along the river, and we all learned the importance of human negligence on protecting our mother nature. On our last day at Sungai Bantang, we separated our trash into different categories for the designated garbage bins. This camping trip had put our idea into action and we certainly would like to contribute and continue our little effort to our mother nature, as our troop’s focus on MOP mission will be largely base upon protecting our environment for the next generation to come.
