35th Pretoria Sea Scout, Cubs making an impact

4 March 2023 we participated in a clean-up of a children’s play area in a large park in our community. It is unknown how many people frequent the Children’s Play area however it is a place that anyone you speak to in the community, they all say they have been there. 18 March 2023, we were involved in the clean up of a corner of a large intersection in Pretoria. It is unknown how many people make use of the road on a daily basis either as a driver or pedestrians.
The community recently put out a call for members of the community to assist with cleaning up our respective areas. This has become an ongoing project. We support the chosen area or project for the weekend we are able to assist with the clean up.
For the Children's area, it is unknown how many people frequent the Children’s Play area however it is a place that anyone you speak to in the community, they all say they have been there. For the corner clean up, The side road can now be seen clearly which was previously a security risk. It is unknown how many people make use of the road on a daily basis either as a driver or pedestrians. On both occasions, we were recognised by members in the community for our contribution.
Cubs are now aware of what the impact of littering is, over a period of time and the importance of not littering. They also understand what the impact is on our immediate community when littering takes place. Cubs have led by example and it has encouraged other youth in the community to get involved in the clean-ups. Cubs are also aware of the impact a few people in a community can have. One person can make a big difference.
