2nd Fermanagh Friday Cub Scouts ( Clean our shore)

On Friday 6th June 2014, 2nd Fermanagh Friday Cub Scouts demonstrated their community spirit by taking part in a litter picking exercise at Race course lough in Enniskillen. This was part of the messenger of peace programme that has been initiated by the world scout foundation. The 2nd Fermanagh cubs supported by their leaders wore Hi-Vis waistcoats gloves and litter pickers. The cub scouts enthusiastically took up the challenge of ridding the lough shore and the surrounding area of all litter. The Cub scouts worked in pairs/threes and the activity soon became competitive, with the cub scouts racing to see who could get to the litter first and fill their bags the quickest. The activity helped to demonstrate to the cubs how important it is to look after and take responsibility for our local environment. Many of our cub scouts commented on how ‘sad’ they felt that people drop their litter and use the area for late night drinking. Each Cub who attended this activity will go on to carry out the peace training at Castle Saunderson International Scout Centre during their summer camp this year. This activity will also count towards their personal progression and SPICES section of their badge work here in scouting ireland.
