Colombo Scout Youth Forum 2020

The scouting movement with over 53 million scouts is the largest organization in the world for the youth. Due to the limitations of the youth, adults involved in managing this movement. The Scout Youth Forum was first introduced as a platform to brainstorm the youth ideas and convey to the management. Therefore, the scout youth forum is a concept which gives the youth a chance to take part in decision making.

The Colombo district organized their 2nd Scout Youth Forum under the leadership of Mr Supun Jayalath together with the planning team. The event was made a success, with 18 troops participating and 50 scouts taking part in the Youth Forum which was held from the 10th-12th January at St. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia.

The scouts took part in many activities like ice breakers which enhanced brotherhood between the scouts. There were many guest lecturers who came from different organizations and educated the scouts on different topics. After each program was a group breakout session in which each team made 10 recommendations to the Colombo District Scout Head Quarters. At the end of the forum, the Chairman and the 4 Vice Chairmen of the forum got together and selected the best 20 recommendations to be submitted to Head Quarters.

There was also a project planning competition in which team Racoons won and their proposal was selected as the project to be implemented by the District. The team Shields won at the outdoor activity competition. The scout youth forum was not only a learning experience but also a fun-filled entertainment where there was a DJ night and a Talent night which made the scouts to bond more with other troops.

On the final day was the election for the Colombo Scout Youth Advisory Group where 2 Rover Scouts and 10 Senior Scouts were appointed as Board Bearers. The duty of the Colombo Scout Youth Advisory Group is to implement the recommendations and the projects proposed during the forum.
