270 Labuan Scouts Participate in World JOTA/JOTI
APPLICATIONS OF THE 62nd WORLDWIDE WORKSHOP (JOTA) & 23rd INTERNET

LABUAN - The Labuan Scouts partcipated in the 62nd World Jamboree and the Internet and 23rd Jamboree On The Internet. Scouts from around the world gather and communicate using amateur radio and and the internet via the links provided.
The program coordinator, Skip Rosni Mohd Daud, said the jmaboree organized by the Labuan Scout Association brought the total number of stations to JOTA in Malaysia to64. More than 13,000 scouts and 3,500 teachers, amateur radio operators and other staff all over the country participated in the program. Meanwhile, the successfuly overseas scouts contacted mainly came from Asia, North America, South America, European countries and Australia.
Also according to Skip Rosni each participating JOTA station had its own callign signal such as the “9M4SJL” call signal for the JOTA station in WP Labuan. The Labuan JOTA Station is headed by Skip Irfan Sim Abdullah (9W6SIM).
“The response from members and leaders of the scouts to the program was very encouraging. A total of 270 participants attended the Labuan JOTA station. Unique to this year, the Labuan Scouts also opened up opportunities for Girl Guides, the Malaysian Red Crescent Association, Police Cadets, Fire Cadets, School Teen Cadets and the Malaysia United Cadet Team to collaborate on JOTA / JOTI activities. The participants consisted of members and leaders from several uniformed units in the state from SK Pekan Satu, SK Kerupang, SK Pantai, SK Membedai, SMK Labuan, SMK Mutiara, SM Sains Labuan and SMA MAIWP ”said Skip Rosni when met at the program.
Rosni added that this annual program, participants are exposed to a variety of amateur radio operating techniques including procedures used of international networks that are one of the syllabuses in scout training. The attendees also learned the techniques of communicating via the Morse Code, Echo Link, Chatroom Internet, Radio apparatus, Electornic project, Q Code, Phonetic Code and Semaphore. Successful participants in the program are fully awarded the JOTA International Certificate and Badge. A certificate of appreciation was also accorded to the activity station coordinator. These coordinators are leaders who have been trained in JOTA/JOTI Technical skills.
The closing ceremony was officiated by the Honorable Dato 'Sri Mohd Alias Bin Abdul Rahman as the Chairman of the Labuan Scout Council. Also present at the closing ceremony were Skip Irfan Sim, Deputy Chief State Commissioner and National Commissioner Skip Rosni Mohd Daud. Also in attendance was MAIWP High School Principal Ustaz Mohd Hasnizan Hasin whom also the member of the Labuan Scout Council.
