25th Cullinan Pack #LitterLess.
25th Cullinan Scout Hall is located in the grounds of the Zonderwater prison residential area. In that area we took not that there is a lot of litter around the two play grounds and this makes it unsafe for the children in the community to play at these grounds. With the cubs we walked to the grounds inviting children in the area to help clean up these two play grounds so that it could be safe for everyone to enjoy.
With the Scouter and six cubs we walked to the area well prepared with plastic bags and gloves and we invited children from the residents to help clean up the area.
The play grounds are now clean and it created an awareness to the children to also always pick up litter as it becomes hazardous to play in the area. Our cubs also taught them about scouting and why we need to help our communities when we see there is a need.
We learnt that there is a definite alcohol issue that plagues our community as we picked up many alcoholic beverage bottles. We learnt as a side project we may have to install dustbins because there are none in these play areas. We learnt the impact of plastic on the little animals that consume it and how in turn it affects larger birds of prey like owls.
