23rd World Scout Jamboree
Volunteers gathered from all over the world as IST for the 23rd World Scout Jamboree at Kirarahama, Japan. It was a sign to behold. With over 7,000 IST flying in early to aid with the preparations for the activities for the WSJ.
I was an IST from Malaysia that arrived early on the 27th before checking into the campsite at Kirara-hama, Yamaguchi. The jamboree started off with an IST training session for those IST's that have already arrived in order to get their jamboree scarf and shirt. In the meantime, I also helped the Malaysian contingent to set up campsite in the South Subcamp, by the Jamboree Staff Canteen.
I was allocated a job at the onsite water module, beach football station, where we had to supervise and take care of the scouts activities here for the next few days from 9am to 5 pm daily. Using a simple rotation and shift system, the team I worked with, consisting of about 6 people rotated our duties. My team consisted of Scouts from UK, Spain, Finland, Italy, Austria and Trinidad and Tobago. We had a very successful activity station with zero casualties and minimal problems with flow of events.
Overall, it was a job to enjoy and have fun with. Making new friends and learning new cultures happened everywhere, and mainly trading of badges and scarves made things all the more interesting.
