2017 CNY Charity Event - St. Joseph's Home Penang

Penang Bayan Lepas Rover Owl C Scout Crew help out on Spring Cleaning & CNY Decoration at St. Joseph's Home Penang before Chinese New Year Celebration. We have organized a CNY Dinner with all children and let's them feel we are part of their families members. (Chinese culture believe that before Chinese new year, cleaning the area will bring good luck and CNY dinner, will bring the family closer together) St Joseph’s Home, located at Georgetown, Penang, is home to 40 over children. Formerly known as St Joseph’s Orphanage, the home has a history of 144 years. Though affiliated with Catholic Welfare Services, St Joseph’s Home does not enforce the Catholic religion onto the children it shelters. In fact, only 10 children from the home are Catholics. The students live in the home with some of the children (many of them returned home for the holidays) and interact with them daily. Some of the activities include reorganizing the home’s furniture and cleaning up the rooms, repainting the walls and spending time with the children at the home. At the end of the project, it is hope that the students will bring back not only life-long memories but also lessons on a different lifestyle and a different experience beyond their comfort zone.
