1st Durbanville Scout Group Beach Clean Up 2023

The 1st Durbanville group is participating in the 2023 Scout/Cub/Meerkat National Challenge and a community service project forms part of the challenge. We saw a beach clean up as an opportunity for us to have a large positive impact on the local community.
Most of our scouts, cubs, meerkats, scouters and parents participated in a beach clean up at Blouberg Beach on 25 March 2023 despite the rain. We supplied our own refuse bags and filled MANY bags with rubbish collected within a 3km distance along the beach.
Blouberg Beach in Cape Town is a popular beach and, unfortunately, it is often badly littered. We believe that our thorough clean up positively affected MANY local residents and visitors to the beach. In addition, we hope that our clean up also impacted positively on the local marine life.
Our scouts, cubs and meerkats were shocked at the amount of litter found on the beach and they stated their commitment to keeping our beaches clean by doing regular beach clean ups.
