1st Durbanville Meerkats, braving bad weather!

Our meerkats have noticed a lot of trash on our local beaches and after learning what Plastic can do to our ocean life we made a plan to clean up the beach and help our planet.
We went to Eden on the Bay, one of our busiest local beaches to clean up the mounds of trash lying on our shores. Our Meerkats hiked a good 3km along our beach lines, braving rain and strong winds to fill lots of bags with plastic bottle caps, plastic straws, and single-use plastic bags and we even cleaned the paths leading to the beach. On our hike a few people stopped and asked what we were doing and our brave Meerkats told them all about the plastic that harms the ocean creatures.
We cleaned a good 3 km of the beach making it safer for beachgoers and our location ocean animals. Our beaches are homes to lots of sea turtles that are hatching and we potentially saved hundreds of sea turtles from becoming trapped in plastics. Our beach is now safe and clean for everyone to enjoy and locals saw brave little kids cleaning up after others.
We learned just how much plastic gets into our ocean and we discovered little bits of degraded plastics that can easily be ingested by ocean animals as food. We also learned to never trust Cape Town weather as we got soaked but we saw the determination of our 5-7 years olds as they carried on picking up and cleaning the beach even with the horrible weather.
