16th Leadership Training Program for Scouts

The pandemic had nearly halted all face-to-face Scouting events & programs in Bhutan. There were no major Scout events & activities except for the virtual ones. Many young people across the schools in the country voiced out their frustrations for a national program that would revamp the Scouting programs in the country. This led to the launch of the 16th Leadership Training for Scouts program.
The 16th Leadership Training for selected Scouts was held in the National Scouts Centre, Paro from 19th August-3rd September for a period of 2 weeks. 130 Scouts (66 Boys & 64 Girls) from 20 Districts & 4 Municipalities participated in the 2-week training program. Guest lectures from imminent members from the community, ministers & governors were invited to deliver inspiring talks. White water rafting, horse riding, tug-of-war & other traditional games were organized for the participants.
130 Scout participants would have a multiplier impact on the community as these 130 inspiring young people would further motivate and encourage a minimum of 10 young people in their schools and community. These participants would actually now contribute towards their community in terms of community service projects and community development projects.
The Leadership Training Program for Scouts instituted under the Royal Command has had a drastic & positive impact on Scouting in Bhutan. With this program, the membership growth of Bhutan has been astounding. As a coordinator of the program, we had a lot of issues and challenges of conducting the program as Centre does not have basic amenities and facilities.
