Tree Top Shelter & Backwoods Cooking
As part of the Rajya Puraskar Rover requirements (Point No. 14), our Rover crew successfully built and stayed overnight in a tree top shelter. Before construction, we selected a safe and suitable tree and planned the shelter carefully. Using ropes, bamboo, and pioneering techniques, we built a strong and secure elevated shelter while following all necessary safety precautions.
During our stay, we also practiced Backwoodsman Cooking, preparing simple meals using outdoor cooking methods with minimum impact on the environment. This activity helped us learn resource management, safe fire practices, and cooking skills in the wilderness.
Spending the night together in the tree top shelter strengthened our teamwork, leadership, self-reliance, and survival skills. We shared responsibilities, maintained discipline, and followed Leave No Trace principles by keeping the campsite clean and protecting nature. The experience was adventurous, educational, and memorable, giving us greater confidence in outdoor living and reinforcing the true spirit of Scouting.
