TrashPIck App

A major problem we identify in our community is the lack of convenient methods for people to proper dispose waste. This has led to many environmental issues including the plastic pollution. Therefore, we decided to develop a mobile app where people could ask the trash-collectors to come to their households and collect the trash properly. The app we propose is targeted for two types of user cases, one for normal people and other for trash-collectors. By using this app, people could schedule a trash pick-up whenever they need and then it is notified for the trash-collectors nearby such that any trash-collector could accept it and come and carry the trash to a recycling center. We are hoping to introduce an in-app rewarding system to encourage both people and trash-collectors to engage in proper waste disposal and protect our environment. In addition, we are providing some tips for proper waste management through this app to raise public awareness on this matter. In our project, firstly, we are expecting to release a beta version of the app – TrashPick as a piolet implementation for users chosen from Kurunegala. An advertising campaign for the app will be carried out via social media platforms such as facebook. As the next step, we are hoping to further develop this app and implement island-wide with the partnership of a mobile app developing company and recycling companies.
