On Saturday Sept 29, 2018, St. John Ambulance Systems International graced the Zambia Scout Association with a much needed training in first aid enlightening 35 scouts on Emergency Scene Management (ESM).

The trainging that took place at the scout headquarters from 09.00 hours until 16.00 hours drew participants from many districts of the ten divisions.

First aid was defined as the attention or help give to a casaulty at a scene of accident/incident by a first aider using materials available to preserve the casaulty's life, prevent further injury and promote recovery before the arrival of medical aid.

Among the issues taught were the four steps of ESM; scene survey, primary survey, secondary survey and the ongoing casaulty care. Others included how to help a chocking person (adult or child), how to deal with snake bits, how to give Cardiopalmunary Respiration (The kiss of life commonly known as mouth-mouth resuscitation), how to deal with wounds and bleeding, fractures and their care, bandaging and so on. The training ended up with a certification test.
