
The Singapore International Friendship Fiesta, A True Friendship Event
They came from different places, yet the bond as friends within minutes they arrived at the 3rd International Firendship Fiesta (IFF) which was held by the Singapore Scout Collectors Club (SSCC) with full support from the Singapore Scout Association (SSA). The event was held at the SSA Headquarters (HQ) in Bishan Street, Singapore, on Saturday, 8th April 2017, and that was the third time, after the same events were held in 2014 and 2015.
Even when the IFF was not begins, the participants already mingled with each other. They were busy talked and shared anything, they laughed, and they also sang together. Then, the official opening ceremony was held with more than 500 Scouts and Scout Leaders from seven countries. They came from Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, United Kingdom, and it’s host, Singapore.
Michael Poh, founder and chairman of the SSCC on behalf of the SSA International Commissioner, Chay Hong Leng, opened the event. In his remarks, Chay Hong Leng stated that the IFF started on the objective of showcasing international Scouting, promoting forthcoming international event, and providing education on world programmes. “Iit is also an opportunity to sharing of experiences for those who have been on an international Scouting event and most importantly, an opportunity for international friendship to be forged,” he said.
Scouting indeed very unique, no Youth Movements in the world or organization can truly say they are as international a movement as Scouting in fostering brotherhood and sisterhood. It is integral part of Scouting. The mission of Scouting is to build a Better World, and the vision is to see Scouts become active citizens who are able to create a positive change in their communities and in the world on share values.
“One way we can achieve these is through international Scouting. The world will continue to become smaller as communities draw closer and as borders become less define. The International Friendship Fiesta is definitely one event which can help to promote our mission and vision of Scouting,” said Hong Leng who can not joined due a health problem, but sent his best wishes to all the participants through Michael Poh who also the Assistant International Commissioner of the SSA.
The event displayed some rare Scout memorabilia items. Including The Chief Scout of the World, Lord Baden-Powell, original autograph owned by a Singaporean. Also some old Scout uniforms from several countries, such as the Boy Scouts of America uniform from the 1940’s owned by a member of the Indonesia Scout Journalist.
There also several perfomances, such as semaphore dance from the members of the Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia, and kungfu martial art performance by some members of the SSA. It was indeed a great and memorable event.
