Serving Health and Hope
As Rovers, we are driven by a commitment to serve our community, standing true to our motto of "Service."
As part of our mission to make a tangible impact in our community, the Robins recently volunteered at a remarkable health camo organized by the Jomo Kenyatta University Student's Association (JKUSA). The event was held at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) grounds. It brought together many health institutions, including the Kenya Red Cross, Aga Khan University Hospital, JKUAT Hospital, and several local hospitals.
From early morning, we took on diverse roles to ensure the camp ran smoothly. Our team assisted with the initial setup of the booths required by the present organizations and hospitals; organized seating areas; managed queues, and offered refreshments to the patients and healthcare providers. In addition to these responsibilities, we were stationed at various points to provide directions and offer assistance wherever it was needed while some of us went out to offer sensitization and educate more of our students and locals on the ongoing medical camp. The camp offered a wide range of services, from Calculating one's BMI and offering nutritional advice to measuring Blood sugar and blood pressure levels; offering Stress checks and mental health advice to offering free optical and dental health checks. The Kenya Red Cross and the Aga Khan University Hospital also ran blood drives in which our scouts took part dutifully.
The day ended with us going around and cleaning the grounds to ensure they remained clean and wastes were disposed of in the right manner.
This event wasn’t just about providing physical assistance; it was also about connecting with our community on a deeper level. Through our interactions, we heard stories, shared smiles, and offered words of encouragement. Working alongside healthcare professionals from respected organizations like Aga Khan University Hospital and the Red Cross taught us the value of teamwork and resilience, especially in the context of healthcare. These lessons are ones we will carry forward in our journeys as Scouts and beyond.
