Scouts of Namibia Food For Life Project

The Food for Life Programme In the arid landscapes of Namibia, the Food for Life (FFL) Programme is transforming lives by addressing hunger and poverty through self-sufficiency. Led by Scouts of Namibia (SoN), the initiative empowers youth, unemployed adults, and communities with vital agricultural and entrepreneurial skills to ensure food security and economic stability. Designed for young people aged 7 to 26, the program equips participants to grow sustainable vegetable gardens using limited resources. These gardens not only provide nutritious food but also offer opportunities to sell surplus crops, generating income and lifting households out of poverty. From July to September 2024, the program reached hundreds of Namibians through 12 hands-on training activities, sparking a passion for agriculture and inspiring many participants to take leadership roles in promoting food security. Its impact extends beyond individuals, fostering community cooperation, transforming attitudes toward farming, and creating a network of advocates for sustainable living. Recognized by local elders as a force for positive change, the FFL Programme is redefining agriculture’s role in personal and community growth. By enhancing nutrition, reducing hunger, and promoting unity, it is planting seeds of hope and resilience, ensuring a brighter, self-sufficient future for Namibia.
