Scouts of Maldives holds its 2nd National Scout Youth Forum

The 2nd National Scout Youth Forum was organized by the Scout Association of Maldives from 21st - 22nd November 2014 at Majeedhiya School. Over 40 Rover Scouts and Youth aged (18-26) took part in the Forum. The theme of the forum was "Tackling Youth issues through Scouting". The two day forum was chaired by Ali Shafaa'ath Maniku the Chairman of the National Scout Youth Council, supported by the Youth Programme Commissioner and Forum Steering Committee. Participants identified current youth issues in the Maldives on day, in four break out groups facilitated by four very able facilitators, participants were able to relate to the issue by understanding WHAT the issues were, WHY they are caused and HOW it impacts the young person. A total of 16 issues were outlined by the participants. Based on the conclusions of day one on day two participants again did a break out group exercise to identify how Scouts can tackle these issues faced in the community. Scouting Solutions were given at the end of the forum and a Forum outcomes document was compiled and passed at the final plenary session. A set of recommendations were also made by the participants to the Scout Association of Maldives. A final Forum declaration including the outcomes, recommendations, Youth Council election and acknowledgements was passed by the participants of the Forum on its final session. The Forum elected the National Scout Youth Council 2015-17 on the final forum day. The following 10 Rover Scouts were elected to the National Scout Youth Council 2015-17: 1. Moomina Ibrahim – 11th Male’ Scout Group 6. Hassan Mohamed – 1st Male’ Scout Group 7. Maadhih Mohamed – 3rd Male’ Scout Group 8. Ibrahim Nazif Nizam – 1st Male’ Scout Group 9. Mohamed Shaah – 3rd Male’ Scout Group 10. Mohamed Shinan – 23rd Male’ Scout Group The Forum was facilitated by Aminath Hasna (Youth Specialist with a Degree in Sociology (Youth Work), Mohamed Nazeef (Institute of Governance and Development), Mujahid Abdullah (Rover Scout), Ali Shafa'aath Maniku (Chairman, National Scout Youth Council 2012-14) and Maeed M.
