Scouting was established in Nigeria as "Boy Scout of Nigeria"through the Federal Act of 1912 and 1915; The body became Boy Scout Association of Nigeria through the Allied Charter of 1924 with the introduction of Board of Trustees in 1942. The Head of Board of trustees members is the then Governor General of Nigeria. Ever since then, Head of Scouting in Nigeria is the Chief Scout, who is the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigeria Armed Forces. with Dr, Nnamdi Azikwe as the then Governor General of Nigeria after the Independence in 1960 as the Head of Scouting in Nigeria; a position that was equally earned by General Yakubu Gown within 1966 to 1975. This position is now delegated to well respected Nigerians that will be appointed by the President and Commander-in-Chief as recommended by the National Scout Council. Boy Scout Association of Nigeria is a member of the World Organization of Scout Movement (WOSM) since 1961, with Chief C.C. Father Matias Opara in at a parallel Chief Commissionership position around this period under review, but this lacuna was harmonized by the Peace Accord/Alignment meeting organized by the World Organization of Scout Movement Governance Team with Nigeria Scouting Leadership at Accra Ghana. In attendance at the meeting was: The out-gone World Scout Bureau Secretary General Mr. Luc Panisod, The Africa Regional Director, Dr. Fredric Tutu Kamakama, Ms Jermima Nartey; the then African Scout Committee Chairperson and currently the World Scout Committee Vice Chairperson and the Nigeria Scouting Leadership.
