Scout Leaders are active on Volunteering in Bhaktapur

The Novel Coronavirus pandemic is placing significant strains on health systems, essential public service and communities globally. This has put increasing restrictions on the freedom of movement of people across the globe but despite this, Nepal Scouts members and volunteers travel to duty stations in order to meet their role in fighting against the pandemic to keep the community safe and assist the distressed population.

During the lockdown, Nepal Scouts volunteers taking the responsibility of their health and that of their community have been providing generous and courageous service on their own initiation and later have been abundantly supported by the community for their Scouts action on the field which displays their immense persistence and heroic approach to help where the community have been lacking.

Since the country is in continuous lockdown and the outer activities are completely halted. In this situation official medias are flowing the information to stay inside and about the safety measures of preventing the disease to spread. As the implementation of the lockdown was strict but still many people are not aware about the situation and are outside. So, inorder to create awareness this project was choosen. Another reason for chosing this project was to support the people with foods, as many people were intended to go home through walking and the needy people were provided with foods and meal.

How was the project/ activity implemented?

Bhaktapur District Scout Headquarters took a active initation to mobilize scouts leaders for volunteer service to create awareness and requesting to follow the lockdown by announcing the possible threat of the pandemic. The main theme is to be stay safe stay inside home. Those volunteer were collaborating and coordination with their local municipalities to aware the communities to strictly follow the Lockdown effectively. They have be using the loud speakers to annouce the information on Bhaktapur, Suryabinayek, Madhyapur Thimi, Changunarayan municipalities including major city areas, junckson.

Since the country was in complete lockdown, to support the Blood Bank with the limitation of blood, initiation with the local government scout volunteer has also taken an initiation to organize the blood donation program. These has influence others also to join the mission and hence till now there is not any scarcity of blood in Bhaktapur hospital.

With the supplement support from the local level government, scout leaders and rover ranger participated in packing and distributing food and serve meals to needy people. More than 1500 people and their families are directly benefitted from the program.

Adult Leaders and Young Leader also participated on the Local government initation work to renovated the temple located in heritage site at Bhaktapur Durbar Square. They served volunteering and also followed the WHO criteria against Conrona Virus Pandemic.
